چکیده

We examine the potential of constraining possible nondecoupling effects of heavy neutrinos and Higgs bosons at LEP and SLC that may show up in the nonoblique part of the Zl i l j couplings. We analyze this type of new-physics interactions within the context of low-energy scenarios motivated by unified theories, such as the Standard Model (SM) with neutral isosinglets, the left-right symmetric model, and the minimal supersymmetric SM. Our analysis comprises a complete set of physical quantities based on the nonobservation of flavour-violating Z-boson decays, lepton universality in the decays Z → l ¯ l, and universality of lepton asymmetries at the Z peak. It is found that these quantities form a set of complementary observables and may hence constrain the parameter space of the theories. Non-SM contributions of new-physics interactions to R b = Γ(Z → b ¯ b)/Γ(Z → hadrons) are briefly discussed within these models.

Constraints from Lepton Universality at the Z Peak on Unified Theories

We suggest the use of a universality-breaking observable based on lepton asymmetries as derived from the left-right asymmetry and the τ polarization at the Z peak, which can efficiently constrain the parameter space of unified theories. The new observable is complementary to the leptonic partial width differences and it depends critically on the chirality of a possible non-universal Z-boson cou...

Constraints on the electroweak universal parameters and the top and Higgs masses from updated LEP / SLC data

A global analysis is performed using the latest data from LEP and SLC. Constraints on the electroweak universal parameters (S, T, U) and on the masses of the top quark and Higgs boson within the Standard Model (SM) are investigated. The uncertainties due to the QCD and QED effective couplings, α s (m Z) and ¯ α(m 2 Z), are examined in detail. Even though the mean value of S is increased to be c...

Analysis of tbW and ttZ couplings from CLEO and LEP/SLC data

We update the constraints on anomalous dimension four t-b-W and t-t-Z couplings by using CLEO b → sγ and LEP/SLC precision Z-pole data. It is found that the data imposes very stringent bounds on them. Moreover, the 2σ pull from SM predictions of ALR(hadrons), Ab and AFB(b) have little chance of being explained by the strongly constrained anomalous couplings. New Neutral Gauge Bosons and New Heavy Fermions in the Light of the New Lep Data

We derive limits on a class of new physics effects that are naturally present in grand unified theories based on extended gauge groups, and in particular in E6 and SO(10) models. We concentrate on i) the effects of the mixing of new neutral gauge bosons with the standard Z0; ii) the effects of a mixing of the known fermions with new heavy states. We perform a global analysis including all the L...

SUMMARY OF EXPERIMENTAL ELECTROWEAK PHYSICS a

Progress continues on many fronts of experimental testing of electroweak symmetry breaking. Updates were presented on LEP, SLC, Brookhaven g-2 ring, Tevatron Collider, HERA, CESR and Tevatron neutrino experiments. Perhaps most exciting is the Higgs search at LEP2, complementing the indirect constraints. However, the standard model with one Higgs doublet remains viable.
